HISTORY
The Pollard-class ampbious assault ships were converted Virgina and Conneticut class of pre-drednaughts.  The ships removed two of the 8" wing turrets and the 6" cassemates  were replaced with bunks for 1,000 marines.  A battery (and later a dozen tanks) were carried on deck.   Four early landing craft were carried.  The torpedo tubes were also removed.
